On January 16th, my sis, mom, and I went to the Scrapbook Expo. We wanted to stay there for only a couple hours, but it was way bigger than expected. It was so much fun! We stayed there for 5 hours! I'm going for sure next year. =) The best find was at the exhibit - Me & My Big Ideas. We got 75 sheets of stock paper for only $3! I bought 4 packs. I wished I grabbed more, but they were extremely heavy! SEI had very cute embellishments. The Red Bee had great deals on glue. I bought an old magazine called Paper Crafts presents Room to Room for $1. It's a great magazine. I think I'm set on home designing ideas for awhile with that magazine. We also stopped by Stamps by Judith. I was so tempted to by some stamps, but I could definitely go crazy with them. There was this one tree, and you could use it for all seasons. Oh the ideas! =D I didn't get them because I'm low on storage right now, and I'll buy them some other time. I'm documenting all of this for future reference.
Friday and Saturday, I went to the Craft Supershow. I bought the 2 day ticket for $15 each. I'm going again next year too! Friday, my sis and I scoped out all the goods. We only had two hours to wander because we both had work all day. Good thing the event ended at 8pm. Friday was informative with a lot better selection than Saturday, but both days were still fun.
The stand out booths from friday were - JoAnn's silk screen shirt and Color Artz Airbrushing, We were there a little too late, so we couldn't make anything. However, we snagged a few free items. Simplicity gave us a couple patterns for aprons and pajama pants. Slice gave away teal and pink aprons. My little helper. =)
Color Artz gave us stencils because they ran out of supplies to paint. Too bad my sis was unable to go again the next day. Instead, I went back with my husband on Saturday. We both had so much fun! We got there a little after 10:30, and boy it was packed! There were lines for everything. Our first stop - the airbrushing. The machine was so easy to use! We both loved it. Here's our creation:
The second stop - silk screen t-shirts. They had a ROCK one, so we both created one:
The line was so long that other vendors were coming to solicit us. We filled out a form, and I won! Here's all the stuff I got from Plaid:
Next stop - Cricut Cake. This was a huge one. They had a whole stage set up to present the cake cutting machine. The top layer is what comes out of the cutting machine. I think it's gum paste and you roll it flat, run it through the machine, and the machine cuts the clipart you'd like. Seems really easy. We only assembled a box and decorated the cupcakes. They gave away free chef's hats, but go early cuz they run out quick. Here's our cupcakes:
Next, I learned a little about hairpin lace. You merge crochet with an extra apparatus. Here's a sample I found on youtube. I really liked the hairpin lace as a scarf. It's old-fashioned, but it so unique. I hope to try it one day.
Our last stop was back to JoAnn's where we painted bird houses. I think that was the best ending because it was something relaxing where we can just sit down, and not have to rush. Here's the outcome of that:
We were only there from 10:30 - 1:30pm because I had made plans to watch One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest at 3pm. That was before finding out about the craft show. It was still a great experience. Rushing to all the booths was fun though because Doug and I had so much adrenaline. He even had thoughts of making our own stuff, and selling it to people. I'm in for that! =) Now to have an idea...
Off to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which was a complete change of pace. It was a small stage production, but the performers were sooo good!! I've never seen the movie or read the book, which probably made it so great. Jack Nicholson was the original McMurphy, so that's definitely a tough act to follow. Maybe I'll watch the movie one of these days. For now, I think the play is as good as it gets for me. I loved it. =)
To top off the evening, I made dinner for the family. I used Lisa's Garlic Noodle's recipe for the base, added some shrimp and chicken. It was delicious! The shrimp came from Trader Joe's frozen section. The chicken was just a rotisserie that you get at the local market. I mixed whole wheat spaghetti and basil garlic linguini. Everyone loved it!
