We haven't gotten the keys yet, but we finally signed the escrow papers last night. What trouble~
Starting off, everything seemed to be going according to schedule. We actually thought we were closing early. We even qualified for a drive by appraisal. As the closing date got closer, the escrow company said we had to get a second appraiser to view the inside. Time. Then they said they need info on our house insurance. More time. Then they said my last name doesn't match. These are all things that should have been taken care of, but wasn't. They didn't review our documents. Anyways, we passed our closing date. Luckily our realtor took care of the cost for the second appraiser and the fee for closing late. I'm not sure if we're officially closed yet, but since we signed the stack of papers last night we're pretty much good to go! I'm glad the notary guy came out our house. He waas super professional, quick, and straight to the point. I like that.
Lesson learned- submit your home insurance early. Maintain communication with your lender. Other than that, I have no idea how to speed up the process. We continuously called the escrow company asking for our loan docs, but bullying them really doesn't help. Our realtor was making me a bit nervous yesterday, when he blew the handle. It really didn't help calm us down. Anyways, we are done! Keys perhaps today. YAY!
