A Serendipitous Tunic

Today was the day before Mother's Day.  I had a lot to prepare, but you know what was on my mind?  You guessed it!  Sewing!  haha

Doug's been working late every night this week on a project preparing for his business trip next week.  He's actually still working right now, and it's already past midnight!  Anyways, that's probably why I have so much me time.  I've been a good wife.  I did laundry like madd, fed the dog, took out the trash, and ran all the errands for tomorrow's mother's day lunch.  We're having Chilean Sea Bass and Rib Eye Steak.  Mmm...

Since Doug worked late last night, I decided to start making a tunic.  It came out not as I expected, but I'm happy with it.  I used the pattern from my gray sweater.  I cut the front and back the same size.  Not the greatest idea because it came out too small!  I didn't really measure myself, so I didn't know what to expect.  Here's what it looked like from the start:

Yep I made pockets!  I used direction from Instructables.  It's pretty straightforward.  Read it a few times if you want to try the technique.  I was a little confused, but then the lightbulb turned on.

Cut the opening for the neck.  Try it on.  I made the hole too small, so adjust as needed.

Here's the finished product:

Notice in the after picture,  I did some repair work.  What's that line you say?  Well, since the tunic was too small when I tried it on, I had to figure out how to add on material.  I wanted the more flowy look with this top.  I ended up cutting a trapezoid, and attaching the piece on.  What do you think?  I think this tunic will eventually become a maternity top.  There's room to grow for this one!

Gotta love pockets!

I'm learning different things every time I make something new.  This one was pockets.  Okay, and I can make myself pregnant clothes if I need to.  =)

Yay!  Success!
