I'm a third way through The Book of Awesome. I'm brainwashing myself into thinking I should own an E-Reader. Now to weigh the options...=)
The choices:
iPad - Do all tablet. Has iBooks, but I'm not sure there will be books that I'm interested in. Other than that, this thing would be perfect for use right now. I'd probably put everything I possibly could into this thing. Since the release of the iPad2, the price for this item has dropped $100. Totally worth getting, but is it really? Lacks face time, and it's not as fast as the iPad2 will be. Altho I played with the iPad, and I believe it's totally worth getting.
iPad2 - Do all tablet plus. Pretty much the same as iPad, but it's supposed to be faster. I like the face time option. Not sure how often I'll be using that. Only runs on wifi, and since I live with Doug I probably won't need to use this feature much. =P
Kindle Wifi - Lots of book options here from Amazon. I looked at the prices, and some of them aren't too bad. The wifi only version is $50 less than the 3G Kindle. Not too shabby. Has E-Ink, so it's great on the eyes. I like that since my eyes have been kind of glassy lately. Computer screens are so bright that my eyes hurt after long uses. Downside of Kindle is it's only used for reading. No other applications. It's a great e-reader. I can see that.
Kindle Wifi + 3G - $50 more than the Kindle Wifi. Worth it? Not really...I think the 3G would probably be good if there's nowhere to access wifi. In my case, wifi seems to be everywhere. There would be no problem finding a place to download a book.
Nook - Color E-Reader + web browsing. The Nook allows you to borrow books from your friends. I don't know too many people who have a Nook, so I probably wouldn't use this feature much. Book options seemed similar to Amazon, so that's a plus.
I think if I had to choose right now, I'd get the Kindle Wifi only. I plan to wait for the iPad 3 to come out in Fall 2011. I love the feel of books, but I have very few storage space right now. It'd be nice to carry it all in one central location. I just have a feeling that if I get the Kindle, I'm going to impulse buy on so many books. Yikes, that's probably the number one reason stopping me. I'm already thinking of impulse buying on this Kindle. I better wait 3-4 weeks before I decide. Will I continue reading till then? I sure hope so!
